UNESCAP asks list of researchers/scientists

ISLAMABAD: United nations economic and social commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) under-secretary general Shamshad Akhtar called on science, technology and defence production minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, on Wednesday, whereat she demanded, “Provide list of best researchers/scientists so that UNESCAP coordinates with them to explore new avenues of cooperation especially for the development of science and technology, not only for Pakistan but the whole region;” an official statement said.

According to detail, highlighting the role of his ministry, Hussain said that a lot of initiatives to promote the culture of research and innovation countrywide have been undertaken.

Therefore, he added, we are focusing on building state of the art technology parks countrywide.

Akhtar appreciated the role of ministry of science and technology in promotion of research and innovation culture. She ensured her organisational support to Pakistan to ensure better regional connectivity and socio economic development for the entire region.

Hussain said that UNESCAP has already assisted many countries in the region and that its assistance to Pakistan to uplift science and technology sector will be a commendable gesture.

Science and technology secretary Yasmin Masood and other senior ministry officials were present in the meeting.
