Sri Lanka wants Buddha’s “tooth relic”

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka high commissioner major general (R) L.K Jayanath C. Perera paid a courtesy call on prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday, Perera conveyed the request of the Sri Lankan government for providing the “sacred tooth relic of lord Buddha” which will be showcased during “vesak festival” in Sri Lanka.

According to an official statement, this was Perera’s first call on Abbasi. He thanked the government of Pakistan (GoP) for facilitating Buddhists who travel to Pakistan for religious pilgrimage.

Perera expressed the gratitude of his government for the prompt provision of fertiliser by Pakistan.

Abbasi while conveying his warm regards for the leadership of Sri Lanka stated that Pakistan and Sri Lanka maintain friendly cooperation in all areas which needs to be further strengthened.

He added that the two sides should work together to revive the south Asian association for regional cooperation (SAARC) forum as a vibrant platform for regional cooperation.
