Sino-Pak for CPEC to cooperate against terrorism: Jinping

BEIJING (China): The chief of army staff (COAS) general Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Chinese president Xi Jinping on Wednesday, Jinping expressed interest in the two militaries firmly fighting against terrorism and ensuring the security of the construction of China Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) so as to provide reliable safety guarantee for the common interests and development of the two countries.

According to an official statement, Chinese president said that China appreciates support and security assurance Pakistan has provided for the construction of the belt and road initiative (BRI) and the CPEC.

Jinping said China and Pakistan, as all-weather strategic cooperation partners, should continue enhance coordination in regional and global affairs and support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests.

He said the militaries of China and Pakistan should deepen communication and cooperation in various aspects and at different levels.

COAS Bajwa said Pakistan supports BRI. He said Pakistan always places developing relations with China at the top strategic position in its foreign relations.

Bajwa said Pakistan is willing to enhance strategic coordination, promote pragmatic communication, and improve anti-terrorism cooperation with the Chinese military. He said the two militaries should jointly improve their capabilities to deal with various security challenges so as to safeguard the common interests and strategic security of the two countries and make contributions to peace and stability of the region and the world.

According to an inter services public relations (ISPR) statement, Chinese President said that Pakistan is our time tested iron friend and Pakistan army has a pivotal role towards this lasting relationship.

He appreciated professionalism of Pakistan armed forces and acknowledged its role towards regional peace and stability. Jinping said that China shall continue to support Pakistan as a strategic partner.

Chinese president said that those who oppose BRI or CPEC shall never succeed as this is an initiative of peace and development not only for China but for region and beyond.

COAS thanked Jinping for his invitation. He also thanked Chinese president for acknowledging professionalism and contributions of Pak army towards regional peace and stability.

Bajwa said that Pakistan understands the importance of peace and has given lot of sacrifices for achieving it. He said that BRI with CPEC as its flagship is destined to succeed despite all odds and Pak army shall ensure security of CPEC at all costs.

Bajwa said that while we work for peace we need to stay strong to thwart designs of all inimical forces challenging our resolve and we greatly value Chinese support in this regard.

Both discussed regional security environment, challenges and way forward.
