Russia hopes JCPOA will be reinstated

MOSCOW (Russia): In a telephone conversation, the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers stressed, Tuesday, the commitment of Moscow and Tehran to the prompt return of all joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA) participants to full implementation of all their obligations under the agreement, approved by United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2231.

According to a press release, Russian foreign minister (FM) Sergey Lavrov spoke by telephone with Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The ministers paid special attention to cooperation between Russia and Iran on international platforms in other areas of concern, including the issues of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear programme.

The discussion also focused on the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, taking into account the efforts made by the Russian side to achieve a complete ceasefire in the conflict zone, as well as the need for humanitarian assistance to the civilian population affected by the fighting.

A thorough exchange of views was held on other key issues, including the situation in Syria, the Persian Gulf, Yemen and Afghanistan.

The ministers compared notes on the current projects of the Russian-Iranian multi-faceted partnership, with a focus on trade, economic and humanitarian areas.

They agreed to continue the dialogue on the entire range of issues of mutual interest.
