PM Khan wants rehabilitation of shrines in Punjab

ISLAMABAD: A high level meeting was informed, on Monday, that the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) will be transformed into a welfare centre, where deserving visitors will be provided with food, accommodation as well as education.

According to a press release, the premier chaired a meeting on comprehensive development and management plan of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) shrine, protection and restoration of historic Badshahi mosque in Lahore and other shrines in Punjab.

As for the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), the project aims to provide facilities for visitors to the shrine, improve the infrastructure around the shrine, and provide better facilities to the pilgrims, as well as make the place a centre of religious tourism and religious education — a plan has been drawn up in this regard.

At the same time, better management of the shrine will be ensured so that parking, anchorage and other facilities for visitors can be improved.

Regarding the protection and decorating of Badshahi mosque, it was informed that Tabarak gallery, Qur’an hall, courtyard and facilities for worshipers will be improved.

PM Khan was also briefed on the restoration and protection of other shrines in Punjab.

The PM said that shrines countrywide are our historical heritage.

He said that rehabilitation and protection of these places is very important for the promotion of religious tourism.

PM Khan said that a comprehensive plan be formulated for proper use of the land around the shrines so that the government land could be utilised for hospitals and educational institutions.


Punjab chief minister (CM) Sardar Usman Bazdar, provincial minister for endowments Pir Syed Saeed Al Hassan, Punjab minister for finance Hashim Javan Bakht, Punjab CM’s special assistant Firdous Ashiq Awan, Punjab chief secretary and other senior officials attended the meeting through video link.

The minister of state for information (MoS-I) Farrukh Habib was also present in the meeting.
