PM Khan orders implementation of PIA’s restructuring strategy

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister (PM) Imran Khan directed, Thursday, to implement Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) “restructuring strategy” by completing the consultation process with all stakeholders at earliest.

According to a press release, PM chaired a high level meeting on PIA in the federal capital.

The adviser to PM on institutional reforms and austerity (A-PM-IR-A) Ishrat Hussain briefed the meeting on PIA’s restructuring strategy which will not only improve the financial position of national airline but also extend its lucrative route and provide services on international standards.

PIA chief executive officer (CEO) air marshal (retired) Arshad Malik apprised the PM of steps taken for betterment of PIA and the positive impact so far on the institution.

Describing PIA as a national asset, PM Khan recalled the glorious past of the national airline and asserted that PIA is committed to regain its position internationally and make its operations profitable.

He instructed, “The service must conform to international standards.”

The meeting was attended by aviation minister (AM) Ghulam Sarwar Khan, A-PM-IR-A Hussain, senator Noman Wazir Khattak, aviation secretary Shaukat Ali, PIA CEO Malik, civil aviation director general (DG) and relevant senior officials.
