NCC-FFP says $3,418m foreign funded power projects being implemented

ISLAMABAD: The national coordination committee on foreign funded projects (NCC-FFP), in its first meeting on Thursday, reviewed progress of power sector development projects, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Japan, France, Germany and the United States (US), at present, 14 foreign-funded projects including power generation, transmission and distribution amounting to $3,418 million are under implementation.

According to a press release, the economic affairs (EA) minister (EAM) Khusro Bakhtyar chaired the meeting of NCC-FFP at the EA ministry, in the federal capital. 

EAM Bakhtyar said that the purpose of the high-level meeting was to track physical and financial progress and identify issues and bottlenecks hampering smooth implementation of foreign-funded projects in power sector.

He highlighted that the incumbent is focusing on energy sector reforms and energy efficiency through development of renewable and clean energy at affordable prices, reliable transmission system and improved distribution network.

The energy minister (EM) Omar Ayub Khan directed the line departments of power division to fast track implementation of the projects and prompt redressal of issues for expeditious execution of projects in the energy sector.

He emphasised on the major problematic projects including Jamshoro power generation project, the advance metering infrastructure, the CASA 1000 and of other transmission lines and set the timelines to resolve the bottlenecks.

Both ministers agreed to hold follow-up meeting of NCC on energy sector in next month.

Earlier, prime minister (PM) Imran Khan constituted the high-level “NCC-FFP” in order to fast track the disbursement and implementation of external economic assistance.

The EA ministry was assigned to convene the meetings of the committee and submit a progress report to PM Khan on monthly basis. The EAM Bakhtyar will be the chairperson of NCC-FFP.

EM Khan attended the meeting along-with secretary and heads of line departments of power division, planning commission deputy chairman, EA secretary, representatives of PM’s office, finance division and provincial planning and development departments and the boards of revenues.
