Marvi says BISP is alleviating poverty

ISLAMABAD: Benazir income support programme (BISP) chairperson Marvi Memon addressing beneficiaries in Vehari, on Saturday, said, “Investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards poverty alleviation and financial inclusiveness” asserting “With improved standards of efficiency, transparency and service delivery, BISP is not only contributing in the financial and educational betterment of its beneficiaries but also in nutrition, health and empowerment.”

During her interaction with beneficiaries, Memon informed them that to overcome the difficulty in using automated teller machines (ATM) by beneficiaries, BISP will soon convert the payment mechanism to Biometric Verification System (BVS) in Vehari which will enable them to withdraw their stipends through verification of their computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and thumb impressions.

She informed that in order to expand the outreach of BISP and to include more deserving people in the programme, BISP will start resurvey in Vehari within three months along with the rest of the country.

Memon urged the political leadership and local administration to coordinate with BISP survey teams to make resurvey a success.

Member national assembly (NA) Tehmina Daultana, from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), member provincial assembly (MPA) Farhat Mansoor, MPA Mian Saqib Khurshid, District Chairman (DC) Pir Ghulam Mohayyuddin Chishti and Vehari DC Ali Akbar Bhatti were present on the occasion.
