Maldivian Asim takes Abbasi in confidence

ISLAMABAD: Maldivian foreign minister Mohamed Asim called on prime minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday, Asim briefed Abbasi on developments that led to the declaration of a state of emergency in his country.

According to an official statement, he reaffirmed Maldives’ support to Pakistan’s initiatives for bringing peace and stability in the region.

Abbasi highlighted, the relations between Pakistan and Maldives are characterised by cordiality, mutual respect and commonality of interests.

He expressed satisfaction over the trajectory of brotherly bilateral relations.

Abbasi stated that Pakistan firmly adheres to the policy of non-interference in the affairs of other countries and will continue to adhere to the principles of the united nations (UN) charter in this regard.

Asim appreciated Pakistan for its support to the people and the government of Maldives. He thanked Abbasi for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him.
