MOSCOW (Russia): Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in his remarks during talks with Pakistani foreign minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday mentioned, “Pakistan is our valued partner in south Asia, we have an intensive political dialogue at the highest level” assuring “Countering terrorism (CT) is a priority area of our cooperation, we are planning to continue giving practical assistance in strengthening the counterterrorism potential of your country.”

According to an official statement, Russian foreign minister added, last year, our countries’ leaders held two meetings with the participation of Russian president Vladimir Putin and prime minister Dmitry Medvedev.

During these meetings, our countries reaffirmed their commitment to building up the entire complex of intergovernmental relations.

We have good prospects in trade, economic and investment cooperation, particularly, in the energy sector, considering that a significant part of this industry in your country was created with the help of our experts.

We would like to continue our fruitful cooperation in international organisations, first and foremost, in the united nations (UN).

The prospects of building up our partnership in various spheres significantly increased after Islamabad became a full member of the Shanghai cooperation organisation (SCO), with our support, last June.

It is your first visit to Moscow as a foreign minister, but you are no stranger to this city. Between 2014 and 2017, you paid several visits to the capital of our country as Pakistan’s defence minister, and also headed Pakistan’s national delegation at Moscow’s annual conference on international security.
