Germany and Netherlands extend thanks on aiding evacuations

ISLAMABAD: Germany and Netherlands appreciated the efforts of the government of Pakistan (GoP), on Tuesday, in evacuating foreigners, especially Europeans, from Afghanistan.

According to a press release, the German ambassador Bernhard Schlagheck along-with Netherlands ambassador Wouter Plomp called on the interior minister (IM) Sheikh Rasheed in the federal capital.

They extended thanks to Pakistan for the timely evacuation of Afghan staff, Dutch and German citizens and staff of related organisations.

Both the ambassadors expressed that they want lasting peace in Afghanistan.

IM Rasheed said, “We want lasting peace in Afghanistan” adding “Sustainable peace in Afghanistan is essential for the development of the region and for the world peace.”

He continued, “The GoP is working hard for the evacuation of Afghans, including European citizens from Afghanistan.”

IM Rasheed informed, “Afghanistan facilitation desk has been set up in the interior ministry which is working round the clock.”

He mentioned, “Pakistan is fulfilling its responsibilities on humanitarian grounds.”

IM Rasheed reminded, “Pakistan has been hosting four million Afghan refugees for the past 40 years.”

In addition the ambassadors discussed other issues of mutual interest, including the bilateral relations.
