FM hopes the bond with Arab League will grow stronger

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan hoped that its bilateral cordial relations with Arab countries translates into a closer collaboration with the Arab League (AL), recalling the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Pakistan and the AL, the foreign minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the AL secretary general (SG) discussed ways of reinvigorating the framework to develop tangible cooperation and collaboration, Thursday, they agreed to remain engaged in this regard.

According to a press release, the FM met the AL SG Ahmed Aboul Gheit, at the headquarters of the organisation in the Egyptian capital city.

FM Qureshi highlighted the importance attached by Pakistan to the member states of the AL.

With deep bonds of shared faith, culture and values, Pakistan enjoys strong political, security, trade and diaspora linkages with all countries of the organisation.

The FM and the AL SG also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest.

FM Qureshi apprised the AL SG Gheit of Pakistan’s efforts towards promoting peace in Afghanistan.

He also briefed the AL SG on latest developments in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the continued grave human rights’ violations by the occupying Indian forces, especially since August 2019.

FM Qureshi appreciated the AL SG Gheit for his skilful diplomacy, enabling the organisation to present unified stance on major issues.

He hoped that the AL will continue to benefit from his professionalism and experience.
