EA minister Bakhtyar thanks IMF for $1.386b

ISLAMABAD: The international monetary fund (IMF) resident representative in Pakistan (RR-P) Teresa Daban Sanchez called on economic affairs (EA) minister Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar, Thursday, EA minister Bakhtyar appreciated and thanked the IMF’s support of $1.386 billion under the rapid financing instrument (RFI) to address the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

According to an official statement, EA minister Bakhtyar highlighted that the government of Pakistan (GoP) and IMF are working together for much needed structural reforms for fiscal consolidation and long-term sustainable growth.

He exchanged his views on looming global economic crisis and the negative impact on communities due to the pandemic and cumulative global response to combat COVID-19 shock.

He expressed the hope that IMF and Pakistan will collaborate to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on regular basis and will address the emerging situation accordingly while keeping a focus on social safety nets for vulnerable section of the society to navigate through crucial time of the pandemic.

IMF (RR-P) Sanchez concurred with the views of EA minister Bakhtyar and said that IMF will continue to cooperate with Pakistan for sustainable economic growth in future.
