Dastgir offers Iraq assistance in military training

RAWALPINDI: Iraqi ambassador Ali Yassin Mohammed Karim called on defence minister Khurram Dastgir on Thursday, Dastgir informed that Pakistan has developed best training facilities and infrastructure for its armed forces and offers assistance in the development of training infrastructure and capacity building for Iraqi armed forces.

According to an official statement, he proposed establishment of institutional framework for defence collaboration between the two countries and highlighted the important role of Pakistan as a stabilising factor for regional security.

Dastgir welcomed Karim and expressed Pakistan’s desire for peace and prosperity of Iraqi people.

He said that regional cooperation is essential to attain sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Dastgir apprised Karim about the situation along the line of control (LoC) and highlighted excessive border violations by Indian army in 2017.

He pointed out that international community needs to take serious notice of the deteriorating situation.

Later, Karim also called on the defence secretary lieutenant general (R) Zameer-ul-Hassan Shah.

During the meeting, matters related to mutual interest and bilateral importance were discussed.

Shah apprised Karim about the efforts of Pakistani armed forces in countering the menace of terrorism.
