Convert slums to developed areas: president Alvi

ISLAMABAD: The president Arif Alvi emphasised, Wednesday, the need for transformation of Kachi Abadis (slums) into developed areas with health, education and road infrastructure.

According to an official statement, he stated this while chairing a meeting on Kachi Abadis in the federal capital.

The meeting discussed various options with regard to development of Jamshed quarters, Pakistan quarters and railways Kachi Abadis in Karachi and the provision of alternate arrangements to their occupants.

President Alvi asked the housing and works (HW) ministry and other relevant organisations to devise a strategy by involving the community and private sector to develop these areas as well as suggest a way out for resolving the residential issues of the occupants.

The meeting also appreciated the fact that chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) was taking keen interest in addressing these issues.

The meeting was attended by naya Pakistan housing authority (NPHA) chairman lieutenant general (R) Anwar Hyder, NPHA deputy chairman major general Amir Aslam Khan, HW secretary Imran Zeb Khan, and Sindh governor Imran Ismail, member provincial assembly (MPA) Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Sindh infrastructure development company limited chairman Samar Ali Khan, through a video conference from Karachi.
