In fact, 100 percent of military units and formations of the SMD have been withdrawn to the firing ranges as part of a sudden check of combat readiness, and they have been organised to conduct exercises, as well as control classes.

“Today, after completing our work at the headquarters, we will take part in separate control events. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the new forms and methods of organising combat training being introduced in SMD,” Russian CGS Gerasimov said.

He also stressed that the results of the inspection will be concluded on the readiness of the SMD for the strategic command and staff exercise “Caucasus-2020”.

Earlier on July 17, Russian defence minister (DM) Sergei Shoigu, during a meeting with the leadership of the Russian defence ministry, announced the start of a sudden inspection of the troops of the Western and Southern military districts, formations of airborne troops, as well as formations and military units of the marine corps of the northern, pacific, baltic, black sea fleets and the Caspian flotilla.
