Afzal is now finance state minister: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain, on the advice of prime minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi appointed Rana Muhammad Afzal, member national assembly (NA), as finance state minister on Tuesday; an official statement said.

According to detail, the oath of office was administered by Hussain. Afzal will hold the portfolio of finance and economic affairs as allocated by the PM.

After assuming charge, the newly designated finance state minister Afzal thanked PM Abbasi and the leader of Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz (PML-N) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for reposing their trust in his abilities and awarding him such an important portfolio.

He thanked senator, former finance minister, Ishaq Dar for recommending him for the post.

Afzal said that he has been serving as a politician for the last 25 years and for the past four years he had been assisting Dar in budget preparation exercises so he is reasonably familiar with the economic challenges Pakistan has been facing.

He asserted that he will work as diligently as possible to serve the country under the leadership of PM Abbasi.

Finance state minister Afzal said that this is the last year for the current tenure of the government of PML-N but he is sure that many ongoing projects will be completed in this year that will take the gross domestic product (GDP) to the next higher level.

He further stated that he will play a positive role in finding solutions for the economic challenges like trade and fiscal deficits.

Afzal prayed to almighty Allah to help him discharge his duties in the best interests of the country.

Federal ministers, state ministers, parliamentarians and senior government officials attended the oath taking ceremony.
