Abbasi assures support for Azerbaijan expo 2025

ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan finance minister Samir Sharifov undertook a brief visit to Pakistan on Monday, to deliver a special message from Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev to prime minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, seeking support of Pakistan for hosting of expo 2025 and world bank conference 2021 by Azerbaijan, in Baku.

According to official statements, PM Abbasi assured consideration to the request for support of hosting the mentioned conferences.

The two sides exchanged views on possible cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially in the energy and agriculture sectors and discussed various measures to enhance the bilateral trade.

They also discussed the current situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK) and Nagorno-Karabakh and reiterated continued mutual support on these disputes.

Separately, president Mamnoon Hussain said that there is an enormous potential for growth in economic cooperation and bilateral trade between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Both countries should work together to benefit from these opportunities, he added.

Hussain said this while talking to Sharifov who along-with a delegation called on him, on Monday.

Hussain emphasised that there should be frequent exchange of trade and business delegations between the two countries in order to enhance the bilateral trade. He underlined that joint ventures should also be started in various fields.

Hussain stated that the two countries have common position on key global and regional issues and they support each other in the international forums which is a reflection of close and brotherly relations between the two counties.

He said that Pakistan supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognised borders and particularly supports Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Hussain appreciated Azerbaijan’s stance on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharifov said that Azerbaijan supports Pakistan’s stance on the issue of Kashmir and believes that the issue can best be resolved according to the resolutions of united nations (UN) security council.

He stated that Azerbaijan is desirous of further enhancing cooperation with Pakistan in various economic sectors.
